After it became apparent that the sculpture had deteriorated, Lewes Priory Trust launched an appeal for funds to carry out a refurbishment. The following generously gave towards the work:
Lewes Town Council
South Downs National Park Authority
Friends of Lewes
Lewes District Council
Morris Singer Art Foundry, which cast the sculpture in 1964, undertook the restoration of the finish to the helmet and the bronze chaplet. V & J Baker & Son, of Lewes, repaired the concrete base. Rivermeade Signs Ltd made the commemorative plaque.
On 14 May, on the 750th anniversary of the battle, the memorial was unveiled by Richard O'Conor of Plazzotta (Sculpture) Ltd and Mayor of Lewes, Cllr Ruth O'Keefe.
